It would take superhumans to throw New York’s blasé populace into a frenzy and yesterday at the Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice premiere, Gotham City was treated to an overabundance of DC heroes. Fans, onlookers, and paparazzi came out in droves to see stars Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Jesse Eisenberg, Amy Adams, Gal Gadot, and Tao Okamoto as they screened DC Comics’s latest blockbuster at Radio City Music Hall. If the collective star power of the group wasn’t immediately evident, the blocked-off city streets and hundreds of cosplaying fanboys were a testament to the franchise’s mass appeal. While the focus of the evening was on comic books—famed scribe Frank Miller even made a special appearance—the attendee list was appealingly fashionable. Models Coco Rocha, Sara Sampaio, and Nina Agdal graced the red carpet looking pretty, while the stars of Fox’s Gotham appeared for a bit of cross promotion. The biggest surprise, however, came via a guest appearance from Will Smith, who single-handedly managed to upstage everyone.
Though the mob of fans overtook the premiere, the after-party was relatively subdued. Post action-packed extravaganza, guests were treated to a fete filled with references to the film, from LexCorp cocktails to a virtual Batcave. The fashion stakes even got a little higher, with Gadot showing up in Balmain fresh from Pre-Fall and Adams debuting Tom Ford’s latest plunging gown. Not to be outdone, Affleck and Cavill kept things dapper in coordinating three-piece suits, proving once and for all that you don’t need to wear a cape to look like a hero.
