Remember those scenes in Harry Potter when Nymphadora Tonks’ hair would magically change from brown to bright orange or green, and you’d scream “hair GOALS” at your book/TV screen? Well, Muggles, a Tonks walks among us, because someone has figured out how to have IRL color-changing hair.
Reddit user moniquey, a true wizard, posted a mesmerizing GIF online that shows her switching her hair from bubblegum pink to a trendy cool blue in a matter of seconds. No, it isn’t video editing or actual magic (we think) that makes it happen, just a very creative use of hair dye. By employing a deep side part, moniquey can have half her hair appear blue while the pink hides underneath. Then with a simple hair flip she can totally transform her look, putting a new spin on the 2016 trend of “mermaid hair.”
The Internet was completely smitten with moniquey’s look, with many Redditors wanting to copy the trend or suggesting ways she could up the magic factor—dying each of her eyebrows to match their respected side, or coloring them a purple hue to blend with both shades.
Moniquey also showed off how her hair looks from the back, so you can see how the colors appear when her hair isn’t parted. Spoiler: Still beautiful.
The Redditor isn’t the first to capture the Internet’s attention with a color-changing hair GIF. In July, Reddit user Achoo_Gesundheit went viral when she used a similar technique to flip her hair from brunette to blonde. Huffington Post U.K. calls the trend “top deck hair.” And last May, Sabrina Abu-Obeid stunned the Internet (and her boyfriend) when her violet dyed hair appeared to change to blue and then pink based on lighting.
Moniquey, we can’t wait to see what hair wizardry you’ll unveil next.
